[FRIENDFEED] Import Your Twitter Contacts v0.0.4

I've updated my Twitter importer to v0.0.4.

The new version does a better job of guessing who your Tweeps are on Friend Feed.

It also supports setting up the username / passwords on the command line so that you can make a schedule task to run the program.

[REDDIT] Rusty Pipes Are Flowing Again

Some of my old pipes for Reddit.com are working again.

Reddit Feed Redirector will make the links in a reddit RSS feed go to the comments page instead of the item linked.

Social Site Submission Watchdog keeps track of when your site is added to Digg/Reddit.

[FRIENDFEED] Import Your Twitter Contacts

There's a solution for importing your Twitter contacts into Friend Feed.

You can find more information about it here.

[FRIENDFEED] Hide Friend of Friends

Actually, don't install this script.

Friend Feed already supports hiding Friend of Friends.

  1. Find a "friend of" item in your feed.
  2. Click Hide
  3. Click More hide options
  4. Click Hide friend of friends

[FRIENDFEED] Tweak Refresh Rate

This was a request from Tony because he wanted to change how often Friend Feed autorefreshes and reloads the page. The default setting is 2 minutes, but I've created a Greasemonkey script where you can tweak the value (to over 2 minutes).

You can access it from the Tools >> Greasemonkey >> User Script Commands menu.

It'll save the value between browser sessions.

You can set it to a large value to disable autorefresh.

Click here to install the script.

[WORDPRESS] Big Excerpts

I'm not quite sure on what planet having a 4 line text entry for the Excerpt field on WordPress blog posts is usable. On my planet you need to be able to see what you're typing. Especially when you have to enter the HTML by hand.

[FRIENDFEED] Put Alert Thingy and Twhirl to bed

Ok, Twhirl is doing the "via twhirl" spamming in Friend Feed as well.

"I hope engtech doesn't lol...in bed" indeed. :)

"These days, instead of googling for something I want, I'm increasingly turning to my network of friends for recommendations instead...in bed"

"Perhaps Facebook is coming later ...in bed"

"Maybe that's coming next? ...in bed"

It's really too bad Steve wasn't using twhirl/alert thingy for that last message :(

"Wouldn't mind writing one Robert if you think I'd be good enough ...in bed"

"definately a nice implementation.. trying it now ...in bed"

"I like it! ...in bed"

"This will not help me to get rid of my addiction to both services ;) ...in bed"

"This will probably be my only comment pushed thru Alert Thingy... deinstalling AT, installing Twhirl new version! Competition = Innovation <=> True! ...in bed"

"please remove the "... via twhirl" message ...in bed"

"Why two windows? Can't they integrate to one UI? ...in bed"

"@arnaud well via alert thingy is around too, and @samuel why the clients need filters to prevent you from seeing double ...in bed"

"Two windows definitely not working for me...needs consolidation and twitter posting ability. ...in bed"

I'm still pulling for Alert Thingy. I think it's a much cleaner interface. It also handles comments better too. ...in bed

"I can one-up that. I have a director that can actually make useful implementation suggestions. He's only a year our of a developer role though, I'm sure his ability will atrophy. ...in bed"

Yes, I am 12.

[FRIENDFEED] Put Alert Thingy to Bed

Alert Thingy is the new desktop application for Friend Feed. I applaud them for their work, and when they have as many features as the various Greasemonkey scripts floating around I'll probably switch to using it.

At the moment they're adding a "via Alert Thingy" line to every comment their users make. Hopefully this is temporary until FF adds a way for 3rd party apps to official state the source of the message. This is a great feature Twitter has that helps promote 3rd party app developers. I know I'd use it if it was there.

A few of us were joking about the 'via Alert Thingy' spam and saying it would be funnier if it said 'in bed'.

With this Greasemonkey script it will :)

[FRIENDFEED] By Service v0.5

  • Dynamically grabs the list of services once per day. It should always display the latest services.
  • When you're on a users' page, it'll add options to filter by the specific services they use.
  • When your one the main page it will hover in place in the sidebar
  • Includes optional "Help promote" links to share the script
Click here to install the script.

[FRIENDFEED] Remove Visited Links v0.4

  • Hides the visited links using Friend Feed's "hide entry" function.
  • The entry will be hidden across multiple computers.
  • You can see the hidden entry at the bottom of the page using the normal "show hidden entries" mechanism.
How awesome is this? When you read Friend Feed at work, you don't see the same entries when you come home because it's persistent across different computers (since it's using the FF site itself).

When you read reddit, digg, stumbleupon etc you don't see the same links in Friend Feed.

This is the bees knees when it comes to improving the signal-to-noise ratio on Friend Feed.

Click here to install the script.

[FRIENDFEED] Twitter Client v0.4

- Will show the correct character count when tweeting from FF (count down from 140 instead of 104 :) )

- Will show tweets as being from 'idt' once Twitter deploys again.
